If you are like me and you have an Outlook Exchange system at work, then you may have noticed that depending on the Android OS version you have your contacts don't necessarily come into your phone, unless you have Android 2.1. However even in that version the contacts are still not always linked up perfectly.

Here are some steps you can take to do this.

  • Go to File > Import and Export
  • Select Export to a File, and click Next
  • Select Comma Separated Values (Windows) and click Next
  • Select folder to Export from : Contacts and click Next
  • Save exported file as : save to somewhere on your desktop, it does not matter what the name is and click Next
  • Click Finish
  • Go into your Gmail account
  • Enter your Contacts
  • Click on the Import hyperlink on the upper right of the screen
  • Choose File  : open up the file you saved on your desktop and click Open
  • At this point you can chose if you want to place the imported contacts into a new contact group
  • Click Import
  • If you decided to do a new contact group you are prompted to enter the new name of this group
  • Click Ok after the import is completed

Your contacts have now been imported you can now manage them from within Google and reverse the process as well. In addition you can also merge contacts within Google for any duplicated contacts that were not caught through the import.
