For years I have used Skype on my computer to instant message, voice and video chat with friends and family all across the country. Just this past week Skype released a mobile version of their software to be used with Android phones on the Verizon Wireless network. The app is free and can be found in the market as of last Thursday.

There has been great debate over which style of keyboard is best on a cell phone, which is the most user friendly. Some believe "real" keys are the most reliable for texting but others have found touchscreen keyboards to be just as good, if not better. Several Android apps give the option to install a new touch keyboard onto your phone to be used instead of the standard, native keyboard. One such app, SlideIT (that's a capital "it" by the way) combines some nice features that enhance the native Android touch keyboard.

For those of you who liked challenging word puzzles, look no further than the free app, Word Up. This game is similar to the old board game Boggle.

The stock Music Player for Android is competent but lacks a certain luster. In an attempt to find a substitute I came across a Free App, MixZing Music Player Lite. This App combines some nice features, similar to Pandora Radio, but also combines multiple features into a standard music player for Android phones.
