There is a lot of competition in the realm of music streaming providers. Today we'll be looking at Pandora who released a mobile application for Android devices. Unlike their website, the mobile application is very simple and easy to use while still allowing the functionality of the browser version.
You can download this on the Market here.
Pandora uses a sophisticated engine to "guess" what songs, genres and artists its listeners like and provides similar content in a user's "station". Pandora learns from every song you listen to and rate by giving it either a thumbs up or thumbs down. Pandora imports all of your stations from the browser version so no need to start over once you download the application to your phone.
I found out the hard way that Pandora only allows you to skip a song 6 times in an hours time. Time spent listening to the application also counts towards your 40hr. monthly limit. Reaching those 40 hours isnt as hard as you might think especially as easy as they make it to hit play. They include a 4X1 widget to place on your home screen which includes most of the functionality within the app including the Name of Artist, Name of Song, Name of CD, Thumbs Up & Down, Pause/Play and Skip.
As always, the application gives you the option to purchase the song you're listening to but i prefer using i Music Tao to download it if I like it. Overall, i wouldn't make it through the workday without Pandora and even though it doesn't let you pick the exact song you want to listen to, its free. Maybe someday Grooveshark will decide to make a FREE version of their application without requiring VIP status but thats another story for another day.
