spare parts

Spare Parts is an application that shows you the missing settings not in the standard Android Settings. Performance issues? Try this application!

You can find Spare Parts on the Market here.

Spare Parts is an application that comes highly recommended to us by our member, Mayer!

Mayer had the following to say about Spare Parts---

I have the MyTouch for many months now and am VERY familiar with its use. I am sure many users are experiencing the same problem...lag time between screens. Very Annoying,Right?

I have tried downloading a Task Killer but that only helped a bit. Since I am new to your site, I am not sure if this has been suggested. I just found possibly an unknown "treasure" and a VERY helpful solution.

Its "Spare Parts" in the Android Market. I downloaded it this week (ONLY FOR 1.5; 1.6 use).

In settings, I checked-off "Fast" in the TWO "Animation" settings and now its SUPER-Fast! Its like a "MyTouch on Caffeine!".

Test it and you'll see!...Mayer

Mayer has definitely found a great tool and It did wonders on my MyTouch as well. I even tried his suggestion on my Nexus and wow, there is a difference.

So let's show off this utility

The main screen of Spare Parts looks exactly like our settings screen however it has some interesting choices.

Battery History

Battery History can show off some metrics on things going on in the phone. Battery History is a terrible name as there are much more things you can view here in addition to Battery History. Hit the top drop down menu for the list of things you can check and you get an idea of how much information you can get here. Is it the prettiest screen? No, but it certainly does show a lot of good information.

Battery Information

You can check other information about your battery beyond the charge level in this view.

Usage Statistics

Usage statistics will show you things in use on your system. You can sort by usage time, launch count and application name. This is a great way to figure out what is slowing down your system and also to spot any potential malware that is constantly chugging on your cpu.

Window Animations

Window speed can control the animation speed of your windows. This is what Mayer is referring to in order to speed up the MyTouch!

Transition Animations

Transitions speed can control the refresh rate on your phone. Another good way to speed up the system.

Font Size

Change the system font size with this screen in case you are having trouble reading text or want to squeeze more text on your phone.

End Button Behavior

Change the function of the end button so that you can have the phone do something customized to your expectations.

Conclusions

An amazing application that offers up the settings that Google missed on the phone. Definitely give it a try if you have not already. We thank Mayer for suggesting that we review this application right away, it was definitely something we should have reviewed a while ago...

It is definitely worth a try if you have noticed a decrease in your phones performance since you got it, it may make the difference you need so you are not using a task killer to solve a slowness problem that is caused by a built in google setting.
