There has been great debate over which style of keyboard is best on a cell phone, which is the most user friendly. Some believe "real" keys are the most reliable for texting but others have found touchscreen keyboards to be just as good, if not better. Several Android apps give the option to install a new touch keyboard onto your phone to be used instead of the standard, native keyboard. One such app, SlideIT (that's a capital "it" by the way) combines some nice features that enhance the native Android touch keyboard.
Download on the Market here.
First, the SlideIT touch keyboard allows for normal orientation use . Next, when clicking on the "12@" button on the bottom left of the keyboard you are shown the numbers and below them the symbols, which include a long list of non-English letters, including those with accents. Simply use the up or down arrows on the right to scroll through all of the different letters and symbols the keyboard has to offer. The keyboard also has convenient cut, copy and paste options under the numbers/symbols screen. This is a nice addition compared to the native keyboard which makes it some what difficult to copy and paste, at least on the Motorola Droid.
