Here is an example of one I worked on: Pong to Spock. The final path was: Pong, Atari, Arcade Game, Space Invaders, Futurama, Star Trek, Spock. It took 6 paths, which seems to be about what all mine take. Once you complete the paths you are shown the map of the path and are given the choice to either play again or you can tweet your results.
While this game can lead to hours and fun, it is not perfect. Last night I was attempting to reach Spiderman and I reached Spider-man. According to the game Spider-man does not count as the same thing as Spiderman. This was frustrating because I was never able to find the term without the hyphen, but I was able to reach the hyphenated term several different ways.
Either way, Wikipathia allows you to explore just about any topic. Some examples I have looked at are: calculus to Achilles, Ursula Andress to brown sugar, and IMAX to population growth. The combinations will never get boring and if you feel that you have no frame of reference for a specific pair of endpoints, then simply ask for a new pair until you find something you feel comfortable with. If you have chosen a path that you feel is not working out, you are free to move backwards any number of paths you wish. Along the top of the screen is a window that shows your first endpoint which will be followed by the paths you have chosen to go along. If you want to move backwards, simply click on a previous path and you will be brought back to that page, eliminating any paths you chose after that point.
A nice touch is that if you are looking through the list of terms and click on the Wiki “W”, it will take you to the actually Wikipedia article. This can be helpful in your path direction but it is also just interesting to read. The app is free in the Android market but does support ads which run along the bottom of the screen. There are no settings to change, only an about and help section. Wikipathia keeps things nice and simple which means it is easy to get the hang of but because it includes every Wiki entry, the combinations and paths are nearly endless. It is amusing to see that their application page in the market advertises that you can go from 'Obama to Nipples in 5 steps!'.
