nook and nexus

So I recently acquired a Barnes and Noble Nook e-book reader. For those of you who have not seen this, this is a device which has the e-ink screen which is great for reading books. I was especially interested in the Nook because it runs on Android and operates through touch. The Nook's version of Android is heavily modified so you really cant see the basic Android we are used to on our devices, however there are ways to hack the nook to run your own software on it. (hint search on google for 'nook hack').

The Nook application can be downloaded here on the market.

I wanted to take a quick look at the Nook (device) and the Nook application that Barnes and Noble recently released in the Market. At first glance I loved the fact that both my Nook (device) and Nook application use my B&N account to access the library of books I have already purchased or downloaded. Side by side the reading is comparable although the Nexus has a slightly smaller screen, the Nook (device) does have the easy reading although non-backlit screen.

The main point here is that I can purchase books through the B&N store and they can go to both of my devices depending on how I want to read the book. In addition you can also lend purchased books to friends for 14 days by using their email address. Seems like a great feature and with the application now on the market I know I can find other people with titles I want to read. Don't have friends with a nook? Try BooksForNooks.com to find other readers out there willing to share a title with you.

All in all I think it is worth trying the Nook, either the device or the application will do the job it is intended to do.
BTW as a little trick to save some money I purchased the wi-fi only Nook and I use my Nexus One's hotspot ability to provide the 3G access anywhere I need it.
