Yesterday provided us with the launch we wanted and expected. The Google Nexus One thrust into existence and another stellar Android handset was released to the world. With the start of CES 2010 we expect even more releases of Android based handsets. Some of these expected releases include two new handsets from Motorola, including the companies first AMOLED screen phone. Another rumor targets the release of the LG LS680, reported to possibly be heading for Sprint. We expect great new handsets operating on the Android OS at CES 2010. What we didn't expect was that Android is more than meets the eye!

Take for example: The worlds first "Social Media Center for Android-Based Embedded Platforms", is expected to be unveiled by HomeJinni at CES 2010. HomeJinni stated their product will be released with a, "mission to address the complexities of the connected home and enable consumers to maximize the use and enjoyment of their digital lives." When we hear the words "digital lives", we typically think of a laptop, smartphone, or even a Nexus One "superphone" as was coined yesterday by Google. However, as you are about to see

So today around 1 oclock the www.google.com/phone URL opened up for the first orders. You could either order the Nexus One Phone unlocked or open up a 2 year contract with T-Mobile. I went with the 2 year T-Mobile plan and the FedEx overnight shipping.

Now I just have to wait to see when FedEx overnight shipping will be delivered. At the time of writing I have yet to receive a shipping confirmation or tracking number.

Rest assured though that we have high expectations with this phone and Google's new direction into the hardware market. We cannot wait to have this in our hands and we will be posting our thoughts and updates on Android 2.1 when it does get shipped.

--UPDATE missed this when I first bought it but the confirmation form (not the email), had this to say about the order;

The event started with a brief history of Android, beginning with the release of the G1. The speaker then addressed the refined MyTouch model, and the versatility of Android OS across manufacturers and models. Worldwide, 20 Android products have been released by 59 carriers over the last year, driving home Androids emerging dominance.

The speaker talked in detail about the gains made by mobile search in-general and specifically by Android. Mobile search was reported to have increased by 5x in the near period. Android searches 30x over a feature phone.

In a surprise statement, the Nexus One was classified as a "superphone" by the speaker and was reported to be the first in a line of products to come.

Nexus One Specs Solidified:

  • 3.7" 480x800 AMOLED display
  • Android 2.1
  • 1Ghz Snapdragon Processor
  • Featuring a brilliant color display with superb contrast.
  • Trackball that serves as the notification tool, flashing white for email and blue for incoming calls.
  • GPS
  • Light and proximity sensors
  • Nexus One will record video in mp4 format
  • 5mp camera with flash,
  • 2 microphones
  • An in-line remote.
  • Stereo bluetooth
